Excessive Point Suspensions (Suspended License) are governed by theColorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). When a person is pulled over and given a traffic ticket, the traffic violation you allegedly violated will have a penalty associated with it which usually includes points assessed against your drivers license and a fine. For example, Speeding Ticket Penalties can range from one (1) point all the way to twelve (12) points and a fine. The time period for the accumulation of points accrues at the time of violation. C.R.S 42-2-127(2)(a). In Colorado, the amount of points assessed against your license in a given year or preceding year is the trigger for the DMV to trigger an excessive point suspension. A Colorado DMV point suspension lawyer should be contacted to explain your rights when you are facing a license suspension; but the following general information is provided, and under no circumstance should the information you read here be substituted for actual legal advice about your case.

Colorado law requires that the DMV mail you a notice regarding your potential license suspension and the Notice will go to the address on file with the DMV. This means that if you have moved, and failed to update your address with the Colorado DMV, your required notice will go to your last known address on file with the DMV.
